I just finished this spool tray to organize my thread. It can be used for rod building or fly tying. It holds 78 regular spools. It can also hold the longer Sulky spools.
Made from maple the inner diameter tapers to allow you to "jamb" fit the rod into it. The fingers flex enough to hold the rod in place firmly. It took 15 minutes to build on the lathe. It is held in place with a set screw.
This is a wrapping tool I made for a friend. I have simplified my first design so it's easier to build. I'm also making a full, dimensioned set of plans for all my tools.
