  4. 0126

Trying to submit a good photo - took 10 to get this one, I wish the wrap on teh right was covering the wrap on teh cover but I can't get another good pic, maybe it can be editted by someone at MH if it's chosen for teh calender?

  6. Flower Star

Been a while sinc eI posted here
  7. Butterfly Rod

HEre's a shot of the butt section. Not completed - still have to inlay a butterfly in teh foregrip & glue everything up & do some final sanding. This took WAY longer than I expected, I've sepnt about 15 hours on the grips alone 4 on the wraps. Glueing this stuff up is just so nasty & time consuming, I spent 6 hours in my shop yesterday working on these as well as another one.
  8. Butterfly Inlay

Butt side of the split grip. Switched the grip colors, the foregrip will be exactly the same. Sort of like the wrap.... Yellow in the middle, shading out to green - the grips - Yellow in the center, green on the ends. Guide wraps will match this as well - Gold trim at the ends, Green & Gold wrapped together - and Green in the middle. Too bad teh antenna were sanded through. DAMN!
  9. Butterfly Inlay

Front of the split grip of the Butterfly rod for my Mom. Needs some more sanding, unfortunately, the antenna has begun to get sanded through. That's a result of having a hard time fitting that thin strip into teh narrow slot I cut. Too much glue on my fingers, it kept pulling out.
  10. Fit for a King

7 1/2 hours on a Calstar 800L, 12 inches long. Gold Superior, 4 shades of Madiera Purple. Will be adding some Rubies once I get a coat of epoxy or 2 on there.
  11. Spaced Star w/ a Flare

Did some tinkering in visualwrap to come up with this pattern. Quite a pain to pack, spent 2 1/2 hours alone getting rid of gaps, total time to wrap this was 5 hours 10 minutes. Center diameter of the blank was 11mm, length of wrap 210mm, 6 repeats of the pattern.
  12. Brown blank, EVA, Cork, Inlay & wraps

My Dad's rod, I'm not into brown like that. Chestut brown Lami XC78H extended to 7'. Horse & jockey inlay, Brown EVA, gonna try and work in some sweet brown cork from Lamar (maybe do the inlay in the center of the butt grip in foam, the rest of the grips cork?)
  13. Shaded Spider, again

Nothing new, this is the same wrap between the grips, and in front of the foregrip. Madeira Polyneons & Sulky Metallic.
  14. 1 rod, 2 butt wraps

GUSA SW70MH which will have a split butt grip with (unfortunately) cork grips, a butt wrap between, and a regular butt wrap in front of the foregrip. I did both wraps at once, total time 4 hours 2 minutes. Not bad at all.
  15. Inside Out Close up

If you look carefully, you ca see a dark spot on teh bottom right of the center of this wrap. That is where epoxy seeped through the coat of CP and allowed a small blotch to form on the good side of the wrap. I think this is pretty neat - I got his idea from Big Mac's Custom rods from I think Ohio - they had a book full of inside out wraps I saw at a Rodcrafter's Seminar.
  16. Inside Out

Here are 2 wraps I did on test sticks for the NY Thread Art classes, which I did some experimenting on with CP.
  17. PolyNeon Neon

Close up. I think there are 7 colors in this simple shaded Diamond.
  18. Neon Polyneon's

This is a sample stick for athe Massachusettes Thread Art Class Feb 5th. Colos are MUCH brighter in teh sun, to teh point I can't even look at them. WRap is not coplete, I will demonstrate how to pack and close a wrap with no gaps with this. AS well as tie off & CP/finish.
  19. CP Test

Left side is coated with GC CP, the right 811S. You can kind of see the thread on teh left towards the center of the wrap turned much darker after hte GC was applied. It stayed that way even after teh epoxy was applied. As nice as the 811 looked on teh right, once the epoxy was applied, it blotched up. Reason why - the 811 was too thick. I have pics of this wrap after I sliced it off the blank, and you can see that teh 811 didn't penetrate any of the threads, it just layed on top and the epoxy found it's way through and blotched the wrap up pretty good.
  20. CP Test

It's very hard to see in these pics, if you want to see a close up of the pics where you can see the difference between teh 2 CP's prior to epoxy (which turned out to be a disaster - my fault 100%), e-mail me
  21. SpongeBob Squarepants

I did this for Mike Barkley, who a couple of weeks ago posted a piture with Spongebob in the background. HE mentioned something about his grandson liking him, I didn't believe him - so I offered to make this for him. Only a true SpongeBob fan would fish with a rod with this on it - if anyone sees Mike fishing with his GRandson's rod this Summer, please let me know. lol. I do not have teh picture where it's all glued up, I apologize. I also have not put the eyeball's in nor the gray spots around SB's face. MAybe I shouldn't glue this up and send Mike 25 mini-pieces of EVA & a bottle of Contact Cement, lol.
  22. Giddy-Yup!

This is for my Dad, who owned a horse which won a race at Saratoga a couple of years ago (Dovey Lovey). This is not finished, as I have to add some Purple circles to match the silks my Dad has the jockey's wear. The horse is 2 shades of brown EVA. I did make a mistake, which is only noticeable if I were getting graded on an exact duplication of the photo which I traced. Finished product is fine. Anyone notice what's "wrong"?
