Side-by-side comparison of American Tackle Company blank to a Rainshadow blank. Both blanks 9ft, 4wt, 2 pc fly rod blanks, secured in the butt sections to a wall. A 2 oz weight was attached to the tips. Overall, the American Tackle blank was clearly faster in the tip and more powerful in the butt. This photo can only capture some of the differences, in person the differences were very apparent with the Rainshadow bending all the way into the handle area of the blank and being much slower in action. In the mid section, the American Tackle held well while the Rainshadow pulled away under load. The tip of the American Tackle blank was much faster and produced a smaller tangential angle to the vertical. See the photo for yourself.
